View Article  New phone system and other updates

Dear Members:

All of our phone numbers have transferred to our new phone system provider now.  We are having some on and off troubles with our phone lines at the new office and apoligize for the poor call quality you may encounter when/if you call us.  Our service provider assures us that they will have the problem fixed soon.

Please remember that the new phone system has some added benefits for our customers.  There are prerecorded "help" menus that contain most of the standard troubleshooting steps for the most common problems associated with dial up internet.

There is also a "System Status" message that can be checked when you feel there may be a service problem.  If WE are having an issue, that message will be updated as quickly as possible.  Checking this could save you from having to wait on hold, or for a return call...and can even save you the hassle of trying to self-remedy the problem incorrectly.  Sometimes a system problem can cause you to get the "username or password is not valid" notice...and some customers try changing their password to 'fix' the problem when in fact, that is not the issue.  Then when we fix our problem, those users still have problems because their passwords are not entered correctly.  Knowing the problem is on our end can stop you from making this type of error.

We also working on a MAJOR redesign of this "Members" website.  We are very close to making the change happen, but need to do a little more testing before flipping the switch.  The new site will still have the search engine box, the email login, etc.  But the look and feel of the site will be much more modern and useable.

This morning our new phone system started going into effect for most of our office phone numbers.  There are still one or two of our contact numbers that have to be ported to our new provider and those should finish sometime this week.

The new phone system has allowed us to put in a few new features for customer technical support help.  We now have a "System Status" message that can be accessed when you call us during or after hours.  We can remotely update this message from anywhere in case there are any network issues that might be causing troubles for our customers.  If you experiencing any issues that you are not sure the cause of, this option is a good start; that way you can know if it's on our end or if something is wrong with your computer or telephone service.

We also now have a basic "Troubleshooting" option in the phone menu where I've recorded some tips regarding some of the most common issues our customers call us about.

Our move out of the Vassar retail office is almost complete.  We've heard from many of our customers that have expressed their gratitude for the computer repair services we've previously provided; and for that we are thankful.  It's always nice to hear how satisfied our customers are.

In case anyone is interested, we're selling off some desks, office supplies, etc from the Vassar location.  We've contracted with our auctioneer friends at Albrecht Auction Service (www.bidnow.us) and have setup a one week long online auction containing the items we no longer need.  You can view the auction at the following link:

http://www.bidnow.us/cgi-bin/mndetails.cgi?albrecht15

We suggest that you also bookmark (create a favorite) for www.BidNow.us since Albrecht Auction Service is the best to deal with when buying or selling!  If you've never purchased through any of their live or online auctions before, but find yourself doing so in the near future - let them know you heard about them from us.

Sincerely,
Charles Partridge

View Article  UPDATE - Scheduled System Maintenance

Dear Members:

The Network Operations Center power conditioning and backup system maintenance has been completed successfully and ahead of schedule.

All of our systems are back online sooner than we had scheduled for.

Thank You for your patience during this maintenance window.

Sincerely,

Charles Partridge

Due to the nature of last weekends system interuption, our Network Operation Center will be performing some important maintenance repairs on Sunday morning (June 27th).  From approximately 12:01am through 8:00am, a factory technician from APC will making the necessary repairs to the facility power conditioning and backup systems.

We expect that there will be a FULL SYSTEM SHUTDOWN for up to a few hours during that timeframe.  No IntouchMI.com services will be available while the power is down and the network servers are restarted.

We are also going to use this maintenance period to install new servers in our network, however these upgrades will not be noticed by our customer base at this time.

We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding this necessary repair process.

Sincerely,

Charles Partridge

View Article  System Issues

Dear Members:

All services have been restored completely.

Dial up connections, domain services, mail gateways, and web hosting all have been in full capacity service since approximately 3:30pm Sunday evening.

Mail services (POP3, SMTP, IMAP, and web) have been at full service since approximately 7:30pm Sunday evening.

This has been a very taxing weekend for all of us, and we greatly appreciate your patience while we addressed these system issues.

At approximately 5:30pm yesterday evening (Friday, June 18th) our Network Operations Center facility suffered a full scale service interuption due to a major electrical spike that disrupted regular power and damaged the backup power supply circutry.

We have been working directly with our service providers in attempt to get our network back up and fully functional.  Our systems suffered from severe damage and we are finally making progress in bringing the network back to live status.

I would like to take this opportunity to Thank each of you for your patience and understanding during this service interuption.  I assure you we are working as quickly as we can to get all systems back to normal.

Please understand that this outage has absolutely no relationship to the announcement made earlier this month regarding our plan to close down our retail store operation.  Our retail office does not house any vital network equipment and the closing of that office will have no impact on the services we provide.

More updates will be posted as time and circumstances permit.

Sincerely,
Charles Partridge

Dear Members:

In order to continue focusing on providing the best quality internet services at an affordable price; we will be closing our Vassar retail office this month.

After much thought and planning, it has been determined that lowering our costs of business is one of the most effective ways of ensuring our longevity.  In the next couple of weeks, we will be moving out of the Vassar location and into a private office from where business operations will continue.  Intouch will no longer be offering any "walk-in" retail related services such as computer repair, upgrades, printing, etc.  We will, however, continue to offer printing services to our existing and future customers in a 'direct sales' manner where product can be delivered, picked up, or shipped upon completion.

We appreciate the fact that so many of our customers have chosen to drive to Vassar from distances such as Metamora, Imlay City, Lapeer, Flushing, Grand Blanc, Beaverton, Otter Lake, etc. and we are glad to have been able to assist you in ways above and beyond that of the typical "internet service provider".

We have also just purchased several new network servers in our efforts to continue upgrading our systems.  These new units are planned for updating our log-in authentication servers, our email gateway servers, and our domain name servers.  These updates will then allow us to make additional upgrades to the servers that handle our billing software, customer account portal (backoffice), and web servers in the near future.

Again, our plan to discontinue offering retail services is strictly related to our continued dedication to keeping IntouchMI.com online services as the best in our industry.  None of our major network equipment is located in our Vassar office so this move will not effect the ability for any customer to continue using our dial up access, or websites.

For any customers that have been making payments directly at our Vassar location, please begin either mailing payments, calling in payments, or visit our Authorized Distributor in Vassar - Thumb Wireless (www.thumbwireless.com) as they are also an Authorized Payment Center for IntouchMI.com.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact us.  Thank You for your continued Patronage of our services.

Sincerely,
Charles Partridge

View Article  Just a wrap up about our Intouch Accelerator upgrade

Dear Members,

I've depreciated the article regarding the software upgrade that was required starting in mid-January.  By now everyone who needed the upgrade should have the upgrade.

I'd like to take a moment to THANK each and everyone one of you for your patience and understanding during the upgrade window.  For the most part, everything went really smooth.  There were a few customers that we had to help out during the upgrade process and we learned a few things ourselves during that.

So far, everything we've heard back from our customers regarding the new Accelerator performance is positive and for that we are thankful.  We truly did put a lot of time and resources into making sure we weren't just 'changing the packaging' on this upgrade.  The technology used in this new software is far superior to the old service and delivers a much better experience.

If any of you would like to share your thoughts, opinions, or criticisms of this new Accelerator software - I'd be glad to hear it.  Just send an email to responses @ intouchmi.com.  I'll take the time to review each and every email and reply back to you when necessary.

Thank You, again, for your continued patronage of IntouchMI.com!

Sincerely,

Charles Partridge

(these instructions will open a simple TEXT file in a new browser window for you to print)

Introducing our latest update to the Intouch Dial Up Accelerator software!  This is a major programming update that uses some newer technology to help decrease the page load time of websites and webmail over Dial Up internet.

THIS IS A REQUIRED UPDATE/UPGRADE FOR ALL "ACCELERATED DIAL-UP" SUBSCRIBERS
ALL PRIOR VERSIONS OF OUR ACCELERATOR SOFTWARE ARE NOW DEACTIVATED.  THIS UPGRADE MUST BE USED FOR ALL ACCELERATED DIAL UP ACCOUNTS.

If you are using any previous version of our Intouch Accelerator software it will be uninstalled at the completion of this upgrade.

It is important that you either print out, write down, or memorize a few instructions prior to beginning the installation of our new software.

+ You need to click the link to download the installation program and choose to SAVE the file to your computer.  The download link is at the BOTTOM of these instructions.

+ We recommend SAVING it to your DESKTOP so it is easy to find afterward.

+ After downloading is completed, DISCONNECT/HANGUP from the internet connection and close ALL OPEN INTERNET WINDOWS including EMAIL.

+ If you can DISABLE/SHUTDOWN/EXIT your Anti-Virus software, that is recommended as well for the duration of the install.

+ Locate the file called "intouchaccelerator61.exe" on your DESKTOP (where you saved it) and DOUBLE CLICK ON IT.

- You will need to confirm that you want to allow the program to install on your computer.

- You will need to agree to the terms and conditions of using the software service.

+ Continue through the steps of the installation.  If asked for permission or approval, you need to click in the affirmative.

+ When the installation is completed, you will be told that you need to REBOOT your computer.  Click the approval button.

- IF you have our old software installed, the program will now UNINSTALL the old software automatically.

+ When the uninstall is done (or after the new program does not find the old one) another box will appear telling you that your computer must be REBOOTED in order to continue.  Click the approval button to restart the computer at this point.

+ When your computer restarts, you will see a warning box that our Accelerator software needs to verify that you are authorized to use the software.  Because you have just restarted the computer and are not on the internet; this box is telling you that it will have to perform the authorization the next time you connect to the internet.  Click the OK button to get rid of this box.

+ Connect to the Internet.  Be patient.  After a several seconds to a minute, the new Acceleration software will open a window near the system tray asking you to enter your Username and Password.  Your Username should be entered automatically (if not, please enter it now) but you will need to enter your Dial Up account Password.  We recommend leaving the "remember password" automatically checked.  Click OK/SUBMIT/CONTINUE button.

If everything is entered correctly, you will now be surfing the web with better Acceleration!  For a menu of what the different icons in our new software mean; click the link here.

If everything worked OK, you can now locate that file you downloaded called "intouchaccelerator61.exe" and DELETE it from your desktop.

If there were any problems with your installation, you can RIGHT CLICK on the Intouch Accelerator icon and LEFT CLICK on the "Diagnostics" option.  Leave the diagnostic results on your screen and call our support desk for assistance.

> >  CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE INTOUCH ACCELERATOR v6.1  < <

The file is 2.8MB in size and can take anywhere from 10-20 minutes to download.  We recommend NOT using the internet (email, web browsing, etc) during this download in order to ensure the fastest download possible).

View Article  Intouch Version 5.0 - Full Release

Dear Members,

Today we are releasing our newest Internet Connection software, Version 5.0, in full release.

This means that all customers connecting with Intouch Dialer versions 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, or 4.3 will AUTOMATICALLY download and install the new Version 5.0 dialer software the next time you connect.  The process should only take 10-15 minutes and should be quite 'hands-off'.  If you were one of our customers that chose to help us out by voluntarily doing the upgrade over the last 2 weeks, you will (most likely) still receive this final version of the upgrade (there are a few of you who already have the final final version and won't receive this update).  When the upgrade is completed, you get a "succesful" dialog box telling you this.  You will also have a new "Connect to Intouch" shortcut on your desktop.  The old shortcut will be replaced by this new one.

If you are using any of our old dialer software (prior to version 4.0) or are using a manually created dialer, you can download and install the newest version by clicking on the following link.  Click the link and then chose to SAVE the file on your desktop.  Once completed, located the file named "intouchdialer_web_v5.exe" on your desktop and DOUBLE CLICK on it.  Follow the prompts to install the new dialing software.

DO NOT CLICK on this link if you are using the 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, or 4.3 version of our software unless we specifically request that you do so after talking to you on the phone.

View Article  SOFTWARE UPDATES!

Dear Members,

We've been working hard the last few months on making improvements to both our Dialer software and our Accelerator software.  We're not sitting still; we're trying to make using our Internet Services easier and more trouble-free all the time.

Today I'm "pre" releasing our newest Dialer connection software update: "Intouch Connection v5.0"

I call it a "pre" release because for the next few days I'm going to let anyone who wants to do the upgrade - KNOWING that our offices are closed until Monday the 4th - go ahead and do it.  I'm very confident there won't be any problems as we've already extensively tested this software (both the full install and the upgrade install), but I wanted to throw out that disclaimer just in case.

So here's how it works:

NOTICE:  There may be an installation error/conflict if your computer has an out of date version of AVG Anti-Virus on it.  Please be sure you have AVG 9.0 installed/upgraded before installing our newest dialing software.

NOTICE:  We've Fixed the problem involving Windows 64-Bit operating systems.  Those of you with Windows Vista or 7 64-bit can go ahead and upgrade your dialer now.  :)

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Please read the descriptions below BEFORE you click on a download.  It important that you get the correct program so you're not wasting your time.  Locate the correct download for your computer and click on the link to download the file.  We recommend that you choose the option to "SAVE" the file and have Windows save it to your DESKTOP.  That way it will be easy to get to after the download is complete.  DO NOT CHOOSE THE OPTION TO "RUN" THE PROGRAM, YOU MUST CHOOSE TO "SAVE" IT.

After the download completes, DISCONNECT from the internet ("hang-up").

Locate the file you downloaded and DOUBLE CLICK on it.  Follow the prompts to complete the install.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

For any customer that is currently using the "Connect to Intouch" software versions 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, or 4.3 - You can download the UPGRADE program (it's a smaller file size since you have most of what you need already).  You can tell if you are using the Intouch Connection software by double clicking on your "Connect to Intouch" shortcut.  If the connection box that opens has a banner image across the top with the full Intouch logo (with white background) and one of the above "version" numbers - this is the program for you.

UPGRADE PROGRAM:  http://www.intouchmi.com/software/dialerupdate.exe

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - OR - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

If you are currently using an OLDER dialer (not one of the versions listed above) or are using a "manually" created dialer (doesn't use the Intouch logo) - you'll need to download the whole dialer.  Again, same instructions as above...SAVE the file you download to your desktop.

FULL DIALER PROGRAM:  http://www.intouchmi.com/software/intouchdialer_web_v5.exe

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Version 5.0 offers a MUCH better integration with Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows 7.  In fact, this version of our dialer actually installs a desktop shortcut in those operating systems where the previous versions did not.

There are a few tweaks in version 5.0 that allow the dialer to get along a little better with Windows Firewall also.  We still recommend that the Firewall be turned OFF, but we know that this isn't always something under your full control either.

This version also makes it easier to get to some dialer options such as choosing Pulse or Tone dialing (yes, we actually have customers that still need the ability to use PULSE dialing!) and we've incorporated our new 3D'ish Intouch Oval "IN" icon into this version.  You'll have newer, more modern looking shortcuts on your desktop.

As stated at the beginning of this article, we don't expect that anyone will experience any difficulties when performing this upgrade.  If you DO have trouble after installing, PLEASE take good accurate detailed notes and contact us Monday morning with that information.  This will allow us to make any necessary changes prior to forcing the update out automatically (which is scheduled for next week!).

STAY TUNED TO THE MEMBERS.INTOUCHMI.COM WEBSITE THIS WEEK FOR MORE GREAT NEWS!  THE NEW INTOUCH ACCELERATOR v5.0 IS COMING TO YOU VERY SOON!

* BETTER INTEGRATION WITH WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEMS INCLUDING WINDOWS 7!
* MINIMAL INTERFERENCE FROM THE WINDOWS FIREWALL!
* PROGRESSIVE IMAGE ACCELERATION!
* We're quite happy with it!  : )

In case you missed this in the news this weekend - as suprisingly to me it wasn't that big of a deal to the country - we lost a piece of "Americana" this weekend.

Mr. Bob Heft of Saginaw passed away at the age of 67.

I won't go into a lot of details as I'm sure you can find a lot about him on the internet (see links below), but I will say that I knew Bob for the last several years.  I can still remember the day my older brother told me about his meeting the "designer of the American Flag"!  Those of you who've had conversation with me regarding bogus stories being circulated on the internet will know that I immediately challenged this claim.

Well lo-and-behold, the story checked out!

It was shortly after this that I joined our newly reformed Lions Club here in Vassar - and Mr. Heft (a long time Lion himself) inducted me as a member.  I got to hear the story, too.  And an interesting one it is.

Bob's 50-Star design is the longest standing U.S. Flag layout of all time.  And he lived right here in mid-Michigan!

View Article  Saturday Support Hours

Dear Members,

A couple of weeks ago we began staffing technical support for several hours on Saturdays.  At this time we've decided to go ahead and work Saturdays into the official open hours schedule for technical support and in-store computer repair.

Support is now available from 10:00am until 3:00pm on Saturdays.

Thank You

Intouch Internet Services, Inc.
